Additional Requirements for Youth Hunters
Persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult while they are bowhunting.
In addition to the bowhunter course certificate of completion, persons under the age of 16 also must have a HuntSAFE (Safety and Firearms Education) card or a certificate from an approved hunter education course in another state.
- To get a HuntSAFE card, students must successfully complete the South Dakota HuntSAFE course.
- Parents or guardians must present the HuntSAFE card or a certificate from another state’s approved hunter education course when purchasing a youth’s hunting license.
