Reporting Incidents
In Iowa, it is mandatory that you report any hunting incident that involves a firearm or a fall from a tree stand if the hunting incident results in:
- Death or…
- Injury to a person or…
- Property damage of more than $100.
You should report the hunting incident to the sheriff’s office in the county where the hunting incident occurred or to the Iowa DNR within 12 hours after the hunting incident occurred. If an injury caused by a hunting incident prevents you from reporting the incident within 12 hours, be sure to make the report as soon as it is practical.
