Sighting-In With Broadheads
Even with perfectly tuned fixed-blade broadheads, the arrow may not strike the target in the same place as with matched-weight field or practice points.
- Once the crossbow is on-target with field or practice points, use the same weight broadheads that you will hunt with for final sighting-in and practice.
- After each shot, the broadhead should be spun to make sure it has not come out of alignment or is loose on the shaft.
Practice Tip
You can practice grouping arrows up to 40 yards away, which crossbow manufacturers recommend as the maximum effective hunting range, relative to the habitat where the shot is made and the shot angle. The average successful shot by crossbow hunters is 20 yards or less.
